Huson and Manhattan Terminal Buildings

Hudson and Manhattan Terminal Buildings, at left background, seen from Cortlandt Street, circa 1930.

The Terminal Buildings, once the world’s largest twin office buildings, stood at the eastern border of the WTC site and were demolished in 1966-7. The tower at far right is Ernest Flagg’s Singer Building. Completed in 1911, it held the title of the city’s tallest for 18 months before being eclipsed by the Woolworth Building. The Singer Building was pulled down in the late 1960s for what is now One Liberty Plaza, a huge steel and glass box adjacent to the WTC. Source: New York Historical Society
